Breakthrough! CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute's Luling Coal Mine CBM Well Achieves Daily Output Exceeding 10,000 m³ Again

Publish Time: 2025-09-23     Origin: Site

Recently, the "Luling Coal Mine Staged Fracturing Horizontal Well Surface Coalbed Methane (CBM) Extraction Demonstration Project (Phase IV)", constructed by CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute, has achieved another remarkable success—the LG03 horizontal well's daily gas production has surpassed 10,000 cubic meters!

This milestone marks the second 10,000 m³/day CBM well in the mining area, following the peak production of 10,758 m³/day achieved in 2016 by the Phase II project of the Luling Minefield, also constructed by CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute. This breakthrough signifies that China's CBM extraction technology for fractured, soft, and low-permeability coal seams has entered a new stage of development.

The No. 8 coal seam of Luling Coal Mine is a typical fractured, soft, high-gas, outburst-prone, and low-permeability coal seam that is difficult to drain, making efficient development challenging with traditional extraction technologies. Since the commencement of drilling for the "Luling Coal Mine Staged Fracturing Horizontal Well Surface Coalbed Methane (CBM) Extraction Demonstration Project (Phase IV)" constructed by CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute, the institute has overcome a series of technical challenges, including high-precision roof trajectory control requirements, long horizontal section deviation tendencies, complex geological structures, and borehole instability/sticking risks in fractured soft coal seams. This has achieved a significant technical breakthrough with an ultra-long horizontal section drilling length of 1,219 meters in fractured, soft, and low-permeability coal seams.

During construction, the project innovatively adopted the "roof horizontal well staged fracturing" technology, achieving comprehensive gas drainage coverage across the entire working face. Simultaneously, through intelligent drainage and production systems integrating IoT technology for real-time data monitoring, it ensured sustained high production from the CBM wells while significantly reducing underground gas emissions. This has laid a solid foundation for safe and efficient coal mining operations.

The successful implementation of the project has effectively solved the world-class challenge of surface gas control in fractured-soft-low permeability coal seams, achieving a revolutionary leap from "undrainable" to "precision-controlled". This breakthrough has set a strong exemplary and leading role for efficient coalbed methane extraction and regional gas control in China's coal mining areas.

CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. was founded in 1956, with the mission of leading the progress of coal technology and supporting safe and efficient mining.
