CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute Achieves Remarkable Results in the Integrated Collaborative Research in Hulunbuir Mining Area

In the Hulunbuir mining area in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a large number of hidden goafs were left behind by the disorderly mining of small kilns in the 1980s and 1990s. These goafs are numerous and pose a high risk of caving, seriously affecting the normal coalmining and the daily lives of the surrounding herdsmen. Accurately detecting and effectively treating goafs in small coal kilns has become a long-standing and difficult problem in this mining area.

After undertaking the research project on key technologies for treating small coal kilns in open-pit mines in the Hulunbuir area, CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute fully leveraged its comprehensive advantages. By integrating multiple specialties, including coalfield geology, engineering geology, drilling equipment and techniques, and geophysics exploration equipment and techniques, a safe and efficient integrated exploration-treatment technology for small coal kilns in open-pit mines was developed, safeguarding the safe production of coal mines in the mining area.

During the implementation of the project, CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute meticulously organized and coordinated, with multiple technical teams and business departments working in full cooperation. Technical backbones went deep into the front line, demonstrated, item by item, the project's research content and the technologies to be adopted, and conducted on-site experiments. They successively overcame technical problems such as directional boreholes crossing goafs, the one - time full - depth measurement technology for borehole geological radar and transient electromagnetic detection equipment in complex strata, the unmanned modification of ground - based geological radar, the accurate detection of water - free goafs by airborne - ground transient electromagnetic method, and the whole - process resistivity monitoring of grouting effects.

Recently, good news came from the project site. Substantial progress has been made in many technologies. After large-area stripping and excavation verification in the treatment area, the goaf filling rate exceeded 99%. With scientific stripping measures, the safe production of the open-pit coal mine can be fully ensured, fully demonstrating the project's technical route's advancement and reliability.
