Recently, Scopus released the 2025 CiteScore journal impact metric. Coal Geology & Exploration, a journal sponsored by CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute, has achieved significant breakthroughs across all indicators and subject rankings.
In recent years, Coal Geology & Exploration has focused on disciplinary frontiers in its topic selection, improved content quality, and expanded its influence through multi-dimensional communication. Its CiteScore rose from 3.6 to 5.3, a 47.2% increase. In Earth and Planetary Sciences: Geology, its percentile ranking climbed from 67% to 82%, moving the journal from Q2 to Q1.
Launched by Elsevier in December 2016, CiteScore is a journal citation evaluation metric released based on the Scopus database, with statistical calculations conducted over a four-year cycle. Its formula divides the total number of valid citations of all publications in a journal within the statistical period by the total volume of valid papers published by the same journal.
