The western region of China is an arid and semi-arid area with low precipitation and a severe water shortage. However, during long-term coalmining, a large portion of mine water resources cannot be utilized due to poor water quality. To address this challenge, CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute has developed a moderate purification technology for mine water, offering a new way to improve the use of mine water resources and reduce environmental pollution.

Unlike the "one - size - fits - all" treatment model of traditional technologies, guided by the concept of "source resource protection, process - based hierarchical treatment, and end - stage quality - based reuse" and with "precisely matching demand" as the core, CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute has carried out a full - process research on mine water purification.

In view of the different water quality characteristics and reuse scenarios of mine water, CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute custom-designs purification processes to avoid cost waste from over-treatment and prevent environmental risks from substandard treatment. It has innovatively developed core technologies such as efficient separation and intelligent regulation and control, which greatly improve purification efficiency, shorten the treatment cycle, and at the same time reduce the equipment footprint, adapting to the production needs of mines of different scales, so that every penny of treatment cost is spent where it matters most. To achieve precise separation of special mine water, CCTEG Xi'an Research Institute has developed a moderate desalination nanofiltration process, pioneering a two-stage nanofiltration system. While reducing the salinity of mine water, it cleverly retains the trace elements beneficial to the human body.

The R&D team has introduced a short-process in situ purification technology for high-turbidity mine water, resulting in an integrated ceramic flat-membrane system. The equipment operates without chemicals, and the effluent water quality meets the national standard (SS ≤ 0.5 mg/L). It features low energy consumption and intelligent management and control. Meanwhile, for wastewater generated from underground drilling, the team has designed in situ purification equipment to treat drilling wastewater on site, achieving on-site wastewater treatment and recycling, significantly improving the efficiency of drilling water use. The purified water can be recycled for production, greening, cooling, and other processes.
