1. Background and significance of the cooperation
In March, 2011, CHN Energy and CCTEG Xi’an signed a cooperation framework agreement in relation to the establishment of the Northwest Mine Hydrogeology Research Institute, which is to carry out specialized technical research and services for prevention and control of water safety according to the hydrogeological characteristics of coal mines of CHN Energy.

CHN Energy is the largest coal supplier in China and even in the world, and it has a strong leading role in coal enterprises. Cooperation with the CHN Energy can play a leading role in demonstrating cooperation with other coal enterprises, and improve the work safety, technical support capacity and water hazard prevention of the other mines with complex hydrogeological conditions through this cooperation, applying the advanced technology research and development achievements to the actual fields, and improving the overall level of mine water prevention and control technology in China.
2. Cooperation mode
Northwest Mine Hydrogeology Research Institute provides hydrogeological safety technical services according to the annual tasks determined by the CHN China and its affiliated service mines while the CHN Energy provides office locations and pays technical support fees on an annual basis. Since 2011, the technical development contract of "CHN Energy Mine Hydrogeological Safety Technical Service and Research" has been signed for ten consecutive years, and a long-term and stable cooperative relationship has been developed between the parties.
3. Achievements
Over ten years' cooperation, Northwest Hydrogeology Research Institute has assisted CHN Energy to make breakthrough progress in coal mine water prevention and control work and technology. First, it puts an end to the death from coal mine water hazards and water inrush accidents above the submerged working face; Second, the basic work of coal mine geology and hydrogeology has been strengthened and deepened, and the results of previous and successive exploration and supplementary exploration have been summarized and analyzed in depth, and a more comprehensive and systematic understanding has been put forward; Third, breakthroughs have been made in the study of major water inrush mechanism such as Ordovician limestone water, pore fissure water and old goaf water, and new achievements have been made in key technologies of water hazard prevention and control, which have been successfully applied to water prevention and control projects.
This cooperation mode, with "Research and Practice of Specialized Collaborative Management and Control Mode of Major Hazards in Coal Mines" as the subject, won the first prize of 2014 Excellent Achievements in Energy Soft Science Research.
