In some coalfields, due to the high cost of ground drainage, potential environmental pollution risk, land acquisition and transportation difficulty, etc., it is cost-efficient to change gas drainage from ground to underground and connect to the existing underground gas drainage system to conduct high efficient gas extraction in coal seam.

Adopting ZDY12000LD drilling rig, BLY460 mud pump truck and YHD3-1500 mud pulse wireless measurement while drilling system independently developed by CCTEG Xi’an Research Institute, borehole drilling trajectory control and precise docking of ground well and underground borehole were realized.
3. Construction Situation
Composite directional drilling technology and active magnetic ranging technology were used for docking guidance. A Φ120 mm horizontal directional long borehole along the No. 8 coal seam was constructed. Borehole total footage was 1988m. It docked with surface U-shaped well group Shenhuaping-01V successfully at 1544 meter. Relative high efficient gas drainage effect was achieved.

The remote horizontal docking technology in underground coal mines comprehensively applies mud pulse wireless measurement while drilling compound directional drilling technology and active magnetic ranging technology to achieve trajectory control, precise docking and penetration, and expand the application field of horizontal directional long boreholes in underground coal mines. The mud pulse wireless measurement while drilling system and the RMRS docking system and its supporting equipment also provide guidance for the implementation of the remote horizontal docking borehole connection. The project has significantly improved the extraction efficiency of surface CBM well groups, reduced drainage costs and land acquisition costs, and established a three-dimensional combined underground and surface extraction mode.
