1. Introduction
Abandoned roadways were revealed during the excavation of a working face in a coal mine in Shanxi. According to the survey and ground geophysical data, the abandoned roadways and goaf may have a large potential safety hazard threatening mining safety during the mining process.
2. Treatment solution
In-seam seismic exploration technology can effectively detect small geological structures, faults, abnormal bodies and thickness changes in a coal seam. The tomographic technology can reproduce the underground geological structure and effectively guide the underground mining work.
3. Work situation
Shot points and geophones (pointing to the detection area) were arranged along the head entry, tail entry and interconnection of the working face. The distance between the receiving points was 10m and the distance between the excitation points was 20m. The blasting boreholes were 3m deep and perpendicular to the coal wall. A total of 3050 m of survey lines, 306 detection points and 151 excitation points were set up for data acquisition. High-quality transmission channel seismic wave data were collected. The perspective ray density was high and covered the entire exploration area.

1. Achieved accomplishment
According to the actuality of the roadway exposure and the interpretation of wave tomography, comprehensive analysis was conducted. In-seam wave imaging results of the abandoned goaf had quite accurate consistency with the actual exposure.

CACT imaging results of in-seam wave exploration: The dark red area in Fig.2 corresponded to the abandoned roadways, and the orange or yellow area was basically consistent with the abandoned roadways predicted by drilling operation. The delineated range of other abandoned roadways is shown in the middle shaded area. Its east boundary is about 550m from the contact lane, and the west boundary is about 350m from the incision.
